Site seeing in the Netherlands
We spend almost all our holidays abroad, but that doesn't mean there is nothing to see and to discover in the Netherlands.
For Michel's 40th birthday, I gave him a balloontrip over our old town Nijmegen. It is without understanding, that I went along. I must say, it was just great. The sunset was beautiful, while we were drifting over the river Waal near Nijmegen. It was also a little bit scarry, I'm affraid of heights and I didn't dare to let loose of the handles in the basket. Fortunately for me, the views were more beautifull then my fears.
We have visited several old findings of humans in a lot of countries, but we never took the time to see them at home. Hunebedden are one of our prehistorical rememberings of our ancestors. They are old burial places that can be found in the north-east part of our country. Some of them have been removed from their original place during world war II, and have been rebuild after the war.
You can find in every city or village a funny local tradition. In a small city nearby, Boxmeer, there is a horse race on the monday of Carnaval. This race is held on a normal road between two small villages and only male bachelors of Boxmeer are allowed to compete. They do it for the honour and a big sausage called "Metworst".
